sigh..now i know where this is from

i watched the 1996 version. goodness gracious... i watched it because it's been on my to watch list forever. had been avoiding it because I had heard it was going to be a hard watch emotionally... they were right

i wanted to find something cool to recommend to my sibling, but now i can't reccomend it. it's a recipe for an exisential crisis. about intimacy, loneliness, and the human experience. all masked behing mechs and nukes. also parent who think getting close to their kids is worse than abandoning them ;-;

i feel so bad for shinji its not even fair. this poor kid. it's so tragic and abusive that they put him in such a bad situation, which he only accepted so he could hear anything from his father :(

i'll say the ending was a bit confusing and i didn't expect it to have such a "wholesome" ending. plus i was confused that i didn't see the angel scream (rameil?) or that scene with everything turning into crosses. Turns out, it's a franchise :O.. it probably won't watch anymore for a while. plus i think it was really even without having understood it all

when it comes to the religious symbolism, i heard they just put it in there because it was cool but i feel like it can still be analyzed in a religious lense because you can't talk about humans if you don't talk about religion in general. i'm not gonna do it tho, my brain is already fried rn.

there was a lot of stuff that made me uncomfortable, specifically all the vague sexual stuff. the more vague, the more uncomfortable it felt. but i kinda get it. for example, (spoilers), the part where Asuka's brain is being ransacked by an angel, she's forced to relive her trauma and such. but she says afterwards that (paraphrasing) she feels dirty and violated. it reminded me of something i heard somewhere which explains that we as people are afraid of things like sex because it breaks down our bariers and vulnerability is scary and shit. which makes perfect sense in the case of this show, because it's all about intimacy and lonliness.

also the animation was so great. I really love the style of the technology

did they ever explain why the eva can only sync with 14 y/o's? i feel like i still don't understand everything. like did everyone get "combined"? the ending didn't really show that part. also, the whole combining humanity into one reminded me of arcane season 2. what's with these people trying to get rid of human suffering by making hive minds. nobody consented to that >:0

binged this anime like there was no tommorow. I'm not sure why, it was kind of on impluse.

I think i had seen a couple clips of it an thought I would check it out, out of boredom. I thought it was alright. For a moment I was getting blue lock vibes. (i never finished blue lock so my judginess is not valid but) I find blue lock to be extremely unbearable :0. The egoist thing was...cringe? and I felt like they were just throwing anime cliche characters into it for funzies. It felt very similar with this show. Each character fits a specific "trope" and doesnt always seem larger than it. very two dimensional. I also am not a huge fan of monologues. And there are a lot in this show.

that being said, i still enjoyed it. i think they are still exploring the characters somewhat. I just hope that we get really deep into whats going on with Sakura. I'm hoping there is something more than just feeling outcast. Part of the reason I might read the manga is because I want to know if there was something specific that happened to him that has him living so alone. Other than that, it's actually pretty wholesome. I like seeing him build better support for himself. It's so heartwarming to see him accept the love being thrown his way.

as for the animation. it's alright. it's got some really well made fight moments. it is always funny to see the little models in the background, fighting stiffly. But i don't animate so i'm not here to judge that.

my favorite character is probably this guy:

i have the urge to reach through my screen, grab his bang hairs into two fists, and yank them around a bit. they look very grabbable. i think it was very typical of me to like this character. thinking back, i always like this kind of character in anime. i catagorize them in my mind as "chrollo type" characters. literally the first thing he does is lie to the main character, and i was like yup, this guy is good. i also am pretty curious about what his deal is but honestly not curious enough. but i do want to see the guy flustered for sure ...hes way to calm most of the time : |

So i watched this movie last night. It's a romcom from 1994?

i dont have much going for me right now so i'm gonna write about it and my thoughts. why did i watch this movie? ... this tiktok edit :/.

Not gonna lie, i had trouble seeing the dude as a different person from Tony Stark but hey. The edit made me wanna watch this because sometimes I just want a basic romance between two pretty people. it kinda reminded me of veil (manga) where a dude is looking out for her.

It was really enjoyable, and I was absolutely tricked twice by the guy. I'm not a huge movie watcher, so i only have basic movie literacy. So i recognized the tropes, but was so delighted and tricked when they switched things up. The first time the dude goes, "i'm not damon braden" or whatever his name was, i was defintely surprised. The second time.... the romance between them fell apart in my mind. I mean yeah, they were meant for each other but dang...the lies. also the violence was not enjoyable even though it was understandable. Idk, they are perfect for each other; they are both on the same wavelength.

My favorite character was the friend. She was such a good friend to fly to a different country just to help her delusional friend. its great. Now. While i like and the romance, I gotta say that I got lost in the messaging a bit. Were they trying to say that destiny is real? or that its made by us. Are they trying to say that the perfect person exists because faith and peter found it? or that it doesn't exist because damon never existed. Am i slow? idk also i felt weird about the relationship between the friend and faith's brother. They straight up never addressed if he was having an afair or not. I mean they implied that he wasn't, but we never even understood wait was causing a strain on their relationship. She basically goes out, cheats on her husband with a swindle man. And then realizes, "well he might be having an affair, i'm not sure, but i do love him!". i personally belive faith and her friend fully cheated. but i just told myself "its a movie have fun".

HOWEVER, i gotta wonder what the deal is with "playing hard to get". that shit isnt real. or at least for me it isn't. yea, people say things they don't mean but there has to be a differnt way to gage consent. isn't it more harmful to put out a message that most women are playing hard to get? if it were me, i would feel very uncomfortable with how pushy this man is. i kinda want to hunt down a romance movie that handles this nicely but still has tension.
